3rd and 4th grade is the season of growing independence. Students move beyond the basics of reading and arithmetic and begin engaging with bigger ideas — in history, science, literature, and theology. Our classroom is a place where curiosity is celebrated and hard work is honored.

Our combined classroom structure encourages 3rd graders to aspire to the level of their older peers, while 4th graders practice leadership, responsibility, and the art of explaining what they know. Both groups benefit from a richer classroom conversation than any single-grade room could provide.

From Concepts to Character
Third and fourth grade is where something shifts. Children at this age are no longer just learning to read — they are reading to learn. They are asking harder questions, forming stronger opinions, and beginning to understand that the world is bigger and more complex than they once thought. It is a fascinating stage, and an important one.
At St. Peter Catholic School, we meet students right where they are and challenge them to go further. This is the age where character starts to take real shape — where honesty, responsibility, and compassion move from concepts on a classroom wall to values a child actually lives by. We are not just teaching math and reading here. We are helping form the kind of people God is calling them to be.
A Prayer for Our 3rd and 4th Graders
Loving God, we lift up these children who are growing into themselves in ways that take our breath away. They are asking bigger questions, facing bigger challenges, and discovering who you made them to be. Give them the courage to do what is right, even when it is hard. Give them wisdom to know the difference between what is popular and what is good. When they stumble, remind them that failure is not the end, but that You are a God of second chances and endless grace. May the values they are building, faith, integrity, and compassion, become the foundation they stand on for the rest of their lives. Amen.
